Meanest story nominee: The Enquirer and Globe gang up on Dr. Conrad Murray.

For the first time that I can recall, two stories get lumped together with a chance to win the Meanest Story of the Week competition, as both the Enquirer and Globe both do everything they can to convict Dr. Conrad Murray of the manslaughter of Michael Jackson before the trial is over. Watch Michael Jackson Hollywood Tonight Official Video

Hollywood Tonight, the latest video off MJ's posthumous disc, Michael, arrived Thursday via the pop star's official website. And while MJ is all over this clip - it's even helmed by one of his old collaborators, You Are Not Alone director Wayne Isham - our heroine in the video is dancer Sofia Boutella.

Though the gal seems to suffer from hallucinations of animated MJ billboards - which are somehow still all over L.A., despite the fact Michael came out way back in December - she's also loaded with talent.And when not moonwalking in traffic, she slogs it out by going to auditions, waiting tables and stripping.


But it all pays off - with her leading a flashmob in front of L.A.'s Pantages Theatre. We're not sure viral-video status is quite the same as going "Hollywood," but there you go.Around the time of Michael's release, Hollywood Tonight's producer, Teddy Riley, told Billboard what he was hoping to achieve with the track, which was created using demo recordings made by Jackson before he died.

Michael Jackson's health has long been the subject of speculation. During his trial on charges of molestation in 2005, proceedings had to be postponed several times when he had to go to hospital. On one occasion he arrived straight from casualty in his pyjamas. 
Jackson's poor health at the time was said to be related to the stress of the court appearances and hostile publicity over his relationships with young boys. But the strain of his lifestyle has always been apparent in his gaunt appearance as well as the rumours of addiction to prescription drugs. The singer died of a cardiac arrest. He had been under pressure to get fit for a gruelling run of 50 shows at London's O2 Arena beginning next month. 


We will know more about the causes of his death after a postmortem examination is carried out later today. There is speculation that his use of painkillers may have caused his death and there are unconfimed reports suggesting he may have collapsed after an injection of Demerol, a powerful painkiller similar to morphine that can in certain circumstances increase the risk of cardiac arrest. 


A cardiac arrest is when the heart suddenly stops beating. It occurs without warning, sometimes with no apparent reason, and is not the same as a heart attack. It can be caused by a heart attack – usually precipitated by heart disease – but also by anything from drowning to an overdose of drugs or electrocution. All of these can disturb the heart rhythm, causing it to overwork and then stop. Serious damage takes place quickly. "If you don't start the heart within eight minutes, the chances of survival are rare," said Ellen Mason, a cardiac nurse with the British Heart Foundation.

To do so, he chose a spiral shape, ironically evoking the king of Pop's journey towards darkness.

Michael Jackson's funeral is expected to be even bigger than Elvis Presley's in 1977, when 75,000 fans lined the streets of Memphis. If that happens, Jackson's funeral will become the biggest the entertainment world has seen.

Following the funeral may be public service , expected to claim a global audience . Hollywood legend Elizabeth Taylor and Sir Paul McCartney are expected to be among mourners. Mourners are also likely to include Liza Minnelli , Jackson's former wife Lisa Marie Presley, Britney Spears , Justin Timberlake and Madonna. Jackson was raised as a Jehovah's witness who are forbidden from following funeral customs that are mentioned in Bible, including rowdy wakes and alcoholic toasts.

A somber and respectful service will be held at an upscale funeral home in Los Angeles.  The funeral will be closed casket, with a large picture of Michael from 1982.    Seated front row will be Jackson’s ex-wife Lisa Marie Presley, the  skeleton of the Elephant Man, Bubbles 4 (the most recent pet monkey to carry the name), and Macaulay Culkin.  The remaining members of the Four Tops, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder, Diana Ross and the Supremes will all perform at the ceremony to pay their respects.  Acting as pallbearers will be the Harlem Globetrotters, who made Michael an honorary member in 1978.


President Barack Obama has expressed his sadness at the news of Jackson’s death.  In respect he held his press conference on the matter wearing one white glove.  Secret Service reports indicate he spent last night drinking scotch and moon-walking through the White House.Sources within the intelligence community believe that Kim Jong Il may be planning a tribute concert in Pyongyang, wearing a red leather version of his standard jumpsuit.  Photographs show Kim Jong Il desperately trying to learn the dance to Thriller.


The closed casket, and other details, have raised some questions.  Yesterday afternoon also saw a flurry of strange meteorological activity over the New Mexico desert.  When asked, one source working out of Area 51 who wishes to remain anonymous said “Michael?  He not dead.  He’s just going home.”


Despite his many controversies and eccentricities the world mourns the loss of this unforgettable musical icon.

The Weekly World News, bless their hearts, are claiming that pressure is being put on Pope Benedict to make Michael Jackson a saint because of miracles done in his name.

It's common practice to mock Michael Jackson. It's actually an effort not to do so, but I put up this picture of him to remind people there was a time when he was a good looking young man who recorded an excellent and under-appreciated album called Off the Wall, before he recorded Thriller and was consumed by fame and weirdness.

A black felt hat, which Michael Jackson wore while performing in 1988 at a concert in Nice was sold at an auction in Paris for 17.5 thousand euros.

The lot fetched three and a half times more than the original price. The auction attracted a huge crowd, with many of the bidders forced to stand due to lack of seats.
