After going missing from Oakland newspaper racks last week, the low rent Examiner is back and ready to compete in the Meanest Story competition with a grab bag story about the moms and daughters who just don't get along.  With moms listed first, the three pairs named on the cover are: 

• Nancy Reagan and Patti Davis
• Martha and Alexis Stewart
• Susan Jordan and Meg Ryan

Stars without make-up: May 2011 edition.

Star has picutres of actresses, singers and models without make-up and almost all of them look not very good to downright awful. There was one "guess who?" picture of a model, but I don't play that game. The people identified are J. Lo, Teri Hatcher, Meg Ryan and Kirstie Alley.

When the low rent Examiner rehashes a story, it's usually already been printed in one of the other Wicked Step Sister tabloids, the Globe or the Enquirer. This week, they rehash a story originally printed in People, the news that newly divorced John Mellencamp is dating Meg Ryan. She is 14 years his junior, but his ex-wife was 19 years his junior, so this may be a sign he is becoming more mature in his dotage.

In this picture, given his vise-like grip on her arm, his weapon-like walking stick and leather jacket, it doesn't look so much like a date as it does an abduction.

The haircut, sideburns and sunglasses don't help either.

In December, John Mellencamp announced he was divorcing his wife of eighteen years, the former supermodel Elaine Irwin, who is, ironically enough, eighteen years younger that Mellencamp, now 59. People now has a cover story that Mellencamp is dating the 45 year old actress Meg Ryan.

This is where I usually wish the happy couple all the best, but I'm having difficulty typing that sentence.
