Bun in the Oven Alert: Jessica Simpson admits her pregnancy.

Publications: People, Us Weekly, OK!
Date: 14 Nov. 2011

Fresh trash on Thursdays!  Jessica Simpson and Kim Kardashian helped prove a point this week.  If you want publicity about something in your life, announce it on a Monday.  This gives the supermarket rags exactly enough lead time to get the story on the cover of the magazines that will be announced on their websites on Wednesday and available on newsstands on Thursday.

People, Us Weekly and OK! have stories about the pregnancy which Jessica has finally confirmed after a month of rumors which this time turned out to be true.  Here are the headlines.
  • People: Baby update! Jessica Simpson
  • Us Weekly: Jessica Talks: "I can't wait to meet my baby!"
  • OK!: Jess having twins
The website GossipCop says the twins part is not true.

Best wishes to all concerned.

On the rocks alert: Nicole walks out on Joel.

Publication: Star
Date: 3 Oct. 2011

Fresh trash on Thursdays! Last trash of the week... right now!

Star claims an exclusive story about Nicole Richie leaving Joel Madden, the couple who married last December. The website GossipCop.com says it's just a rumor.

Nicole has been nearly invisible on the covers of the gossip rags in 2011 and this is Joel Madden's first appearance this year. Nicole's co-star on a reality TV show called The Simple Life is also of next to no interest to the gossip mags so far in 2011.

This gives hope to those want to see the end of the plagues known as Teen Mom and all things Kardashian.

On the rocks alert: Rob and Kristen split!

Publication: Star magazine
Date: 13 June 2011

Star magazine reports that Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart are no longer a couple. They say that cheating has torn them apart.

GossipCop.com calls bullshit on them, but this is nothing to sue over.

On the other hand, Angelina Jolie on heroin probably is something Star will get sued for, since they already lost cash calling Katie Holmes a pill popper.

On the Rocks Alert:Jason Trawick beat Britney Spears

Publication: Star
Date: 13 December 2010

There are two big stories this week that would be competing for Scoop of the Week, except that both have been shot down before the ink dried on the paper. Star gives most of the cover to a story that Jason Trawick beat Britney Spears when she was pregnant with his child this year. The alleged abuse occurred after Britney accused Jason of cheating on her with a teenager and Britney suffered a black eye. The story continues inside with "shocking texts". As you might already know, it is the policy of this blog to never open a supermarket rag except under the most dire circumstances. I just report on what's on the cover and what I can find online.

The source of the story is Jason Alexander. Not the famous Jason Alexander who was on Seinfeld, but the nobody Jason Alexander Britney married and divorced in the span of a weekend.

GossipCop says it's crap. Britney and her people say she hasn't been in contact with him in years. If you have to choose between Star magazine, Jason Alexander (not the famous one) and GossipCop, trust GossipCop.

Bun In The Oven Alert™:Jessica Simpson is pregnant!

Publication: Weekly Life & Style
Date: 13 December 2010

Weekly Life & Style uses most of the cover this week to tell us "exclusively" that Jessica Simpson is pregnant. Among the details:
  • Morning sickness and cravings
  • Inside family's joyous celebration
  • Rushing to get married
This story is "exclusive" if we only count the supermarket rags, but Perez Hilton has been pushing this story online for some time now.

GossipCop says it's crap. If you have to choose between GossipCop, Perez Hilton and Weekly Life & Style, trust GossipCop.

Bells Are Ringing Alert™:Kourtney's engaged (official)

Publication: In Touch
Date: 6 December 2010

A week in the supermarket rags without some Kardashian dish? I highly goddamn doubt it.

In Touch says "it's official!" this week. In Touch says a lot of stuff and most of it bad about Scott Disick.

Reliable online gossip sources like GossipCop.com say the story is they would only get married for the money they could make on gifts. If that were the case, why would people come to the wedding knowing that? Or why wouldn't they come for some free food and booze, then bug out without leaving a gift?

It might be true, but it looks more like a rumor and there's no way it's "official". In Touch gets a fail label for this one.

On the Rocks Alert:TomKat's separate lives

Publication: In Touch
Date: 15 November 2010

Fresh trash on Thursdays! This week's headlines are mostly about TV people and musicians with very few stories about actual movie stars. One celebrity couple who actually are movie stars that gets a mention this week is TomKat, and as usual, the news is not good.

According to In Touch, she sleeps in the guest room, is taking birth control once again and he has agreed to give her an "allowance" of $1.5 million a year.

According to gossipcop.com, all this comes from a former Scientologist who is shopping a book. Cruise's publicist denies it all.

Bells Are Ringing Alert™:Katie Couric's secret wedding

Publication: National Enquirer
Date: 30 August 2010

The Flagship says Katie Couric will marry her boyfriend Brooks Perlin in December. They also say that he is seventeen years younger than she is.

They got the numbers right, but according to GossipCop, the wedding stuff is completely made up. GossipCop is a very useful website, doing pretty much the same thing I'm doing, only with an actual budget and staff. I have checked out their stuff before and today I'm creating a label for posts that include links to their pages. They perform a very valuable service.
