Hey Old Timer Gossip: A "Where Are They Now?" story about stars of cop and detective shows.

This week's Meanest Story competition is not as mean as recent weeks when there have been several Brave Last Days Alerts.  Two reasons for this are that the low rent Examiner wasn't delivered to the usual places in Oakland and the Globe had a massive cover story that isn't mean. They have a list of old detective and cop shows with pictures of the stars. They may say some of them are going through hard times in the story inside, but on the cover it's just an invitation to nostalgia. Here are the stars and shows mentioned, each with a picture. There is a promise of an 11 page spread with even more photos.  Here is the list from the cover, both of stars and shows.

Meanest story nominee:Celebrity Beaters and Cheaters

Friday is now officially the day for the Meanest Story nominees, and there's plenty to choose from this week. There's a subtext in the tabloids telling the people standing in checkout lines that they actually have it better than the rich people who actually are miserable. The Enquirer's lead story moves the subtext forward and makes it just text.

There are multiple pictures of celebrity women who were beaten, and pictures of guys caught cheating.

Beaten women: Rihanna (pictured above), La Toya Jackson, Mindy MacCready
Guys caught cheating: Don Johnson (with a porn star), Keith Urban
The "Cheaters Hall of Shame": Morgan Freeman, John Edwards, Jesse James
Both beater and cheater: Mel Gibson

This is definitely a mean story and the pictures are hard to look at. Most weeks it would be a favorite to win meanest of the week, but there is stiff competition this time around.
